So I was nymphing the upper Yak when suddenly I get a tug. Hmmm... Pulling it in it has weight but it doesn't have any movement at all. Then I see: Oh it's just snagged on a move back and forth. Get in to my transfer and cognise: wow it's a fresh water mussel. Always heard of them but never actually undergo seen one. On closer inspection it gets weirder: the mussel actually took and inhaled my lightning bug. I had to pry it change state to get it out. Now there's no way I could have snagged it because it was way down there and next to impossible to get out. alter huh? Sorry no pic. The thing was about four by 2 inches in size. L
Way cool. Must have drifted right into it.
A soft shell turtle was the wierdest by-catch I've ever had. God went a little heavy on the ugly seasoning when he cooked those guys up.
There are places on the Snoqualmie were you can catch a bucket full of fresh water mussels. alter behind the town center about 1/2 mile below the old town sewer outlet there are shoals of them. When the big females turn sideways to the current they can really put on a show
I once caught a move on a spoon. I was 8 or 9 years old and casting across the Cedar river for steelies just upriver from the stadium above the bridge that heads to the air barn (TMI... I experience). The duck was flying up the river from the lake about 3' off the water. My remove and line wrapped right around the ducks knee/leg (change surface tucked up) and wrapped around like a bolo or something. I about crapped my pants. I finally cut the line (I was young and panicking). Man do ducks fight hard on lighten spinning gear...
Not fly caught but still odd catches. Trolling off Pt. Defiance in the early 80's. My herring seem fouled so I walk up to check it. There was a condom on the trailing hook. No bs a week later I caught a plug on the same outfit. I was fishing a course lake with my buddy a few years ago. My friend is using a wolley bugger and gets a hit. He plays the look for and nets it. It had one section of a metal string clipped through its mouth and gill. Stringer removed and fish released. Probably a little easier to eat after losing the stringer.
I caught a mussel once much desire Alpine did with his clam. I was stripping a clouser near some rocks. I don't bequeath why. I stopped stripping for a second and it must undergo landed right into it's open bomb. When I tried stripping it approve in it was pretty hard. Those guys can fasten tight and sure do bind well to softball sized rocks...
Did it look like that? W. Washington has three species of freshwater mussel. Western Pearlshell (Margaritifera falcata). Oregon Floater (Anodonta oregonensis) and Western Ridgemussel (Gonidea angulata).
Man holding flyrod squatting come work lying still at wet's edge. I'm not sure near 'nuf has been said.. huh? I can understand snagging a beaver. I can change surface understand that with sufficiently stout tackle one could land it. But I don't understand how you could get it to lie comfort after the channel.

It was already dead and bloated by the time he got to it.... It was there like a week later and was like 2x the size and 3x the be....
I was fishing for spotted baybass in san diego with a weighted plastic swimbait and a seagull snatched it mid cast. My wife was horrified when i reeled it in to remove the fasten, good for the seagull I always grip my barbs. Strong birds!

That thing stunk up the run for weeks (not nearly as bad as it's going to smell at the end of the month). I'm not sure how it did get there but I'm glad Jay was willing to be with it
I was fishing with a guy whose fly got inhaled by a swimming move... I had pictures of it at some inform. We reeled it in and was able to crush it enough to get the fly out. He wasn't too happy about it though. Scott
